The Simpsons (TV show)

"It should be cancelled but it was one of the best..."

The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series is a satirical parody of a middle class American lifestyle epitomized by its family of the same name, which consists of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture, society, television, and many aspects of the human condition.
The family was conceived by Groening shortly before a solicitation for a series of animated shorts with the producer James L. Brooks. Groening created a dysfunctional family and named the characters after members of his own family, substituting Bart for his own name. The shorts became a part of The Tracey Ullman Show on April 19, 1987. After a three-season run, the sketch was developed into a half-hour prime time show and was an early hit for Fox, becoming the network's first series to land in the Top 30 ratings in a season (1989–1990). The Simpsons didn't start off amazing. I'll be honest. When I speak of the "golden years" I'm talking about seasons 4 to 9 or so.

The first few years were awkward. You had inconsistent voicing (Ralph Wiggum had Nelson's voice), wrong hair color (Wiggum and Milhouse with black hair), and a black Smithers.

Homer's voice was kind of awkward too. As someone who didn't start watching the Simpsons until season 4 or 5 in 1994, I find the original Homer voice to be awkward.

I'd say it really hit its stride with episodes like Homer's Triple Bypass... comedy but also some serious plots as well.

Once you get to season 10 and beyond, things get worse. The guest stars like 50 Cent, Blink 182, and Lady Gaga subtract from the overall experience.

Stick with the best seasons and you will be very pleased.

Watch The Simpsons Online. The Simpsons are a typical family who live in a fictional “Middle American” town of Springfield. Homer, the father, works as a safety inspector at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, a position at odds with his careless, buffoonish personality. He is married to Marge Simpson, a stereotypical American housewife and mother. They have three children: Bart, a ten-year-old troublemaker; Lisa, a precocious eight-year-old activist; and Maggie, the baby of the family who rarely speaks, but communicates by sucking on a pacifier. The family owns a dog, Santa’s Little Helper, and a cat, Snowball V, renamed Snowball II in “I, (Annoyed Grunt)-Bot”. Both pets have had starring roles in several episodes. Despite the depiction of yearly milestones such as holidays or birthdays passing, the characters do not age between episodes

Usually, in comedy once you've seen it once and know the jokes it's not funny anymore, but not The Simpsons. I can watch The Simpsons over and over, knowing the jokes are coming, and it's still funny because the deliveries are so good and amusing. The writing is great, the voice acting and everything are perfect. It's so subtle and the satire is done really well.

I'm lucky to have grown up with Simpsons!
